SSO is looking for a Major Gifts Coordinator

The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario (SSO) is a 3 million dollar charitable organization servicing the community since 1979 with regional offices and services across Ontario. Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of people, families and communities affected by schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses. With a staff of 25 people, we achieve this through:
  • The national research institute
  • Support services to individuals, families and communities
  • Partnerships with government and businesses
  • Education, training and the resource center
  • Youth mentorship and empowerment initiatives
  • Advocacy and impacting systems change
 
Thanks to the generous support of our 23,000 generous donors, SSO is able to provide services throughout Ontario. Currently, SSO is proud to be launching a national research institute with a broad reach and scope. In support of this enterprise, the fundraising department is seeking a dynamic and passionate professional to join our team in the position of Major Gifts Coordinator to help increase its major gifts portfolio by 30%. Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Development, the incumbent will bring expertise, target deliverables, passion and benevolence.
 
 Specific responsibilities include:

·Achieve revenue targets to sustain a 3 million dollar and growing operation
· Stewardship of existing donors
· Stewardship of  prospective and new donors
· Management of a donor communication schedule and donor list
· Moving potential major donors through the pipeline and preparing information for the CEO, Manager and Board
· Recording of all information regarding client interactions on Raisers Edge Database
· Research current and potential major donors and how to best cultivate relationships and investment in SSO
· Development  and implementation of  a major gifts strategic work plan
· Plan and host fundraising events for donors in support of reaching revenue targets
· Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with various initiatives as required
· Create and maintain a donor recognition program of gift acknowledgement and donor benefits
· Other duties related to the major gift coordinator role

Qualifications:

·Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma or training (example: business degree, fundraising management, philanthropy etc.)
·3 years related experience ideally in the not-for-profit sector
·Previous fundraising experience
·Raiser’s Edge experience
·Familiarity with maintaining a client database
·Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software

· Exceptional stewardship and relationship skills
· Strong database management skills with Raiser's Edge
· Project management skills
· Ability to put strategic plans into action
· Excellent communication, presentation and public relations skills; ability to communicate   
  effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders
· Passionate about mental health specifically related to schizophrenia and psychosis
· Exuberant, positive, visionary thinker and results focused
· Leadership and organisational skills
· Superior time management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
· Sensitivity to issues facing those affected by mental illness
· Ability to work with and support volunteers
· Self-starter with the ability to take direction
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
 
 This position involves some travel across the province and may require some evening and weekend work. 
 
Remuneration: salary to commensurate with the position, comprehensive benefits, matching pension plan and vacation time.
