CBT Training Helped Linda Take Control

Linda Zlepnig, a family member who has a son who lives with schizophrenia, heard about the cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBT-p) program and knew it was something she wanted to participate in. She attended both the two day workshop in Toronto and the five day program in Ottawa in 2016.

“I was interested in the program because I wanted to learn more about CBT-p and see if I could apply any of its techniques with my son,” Linda says. “I enjoyed all of the training but the five day program was fantastic. We were able to have time to practice with Dr. Turkington and his team.”

Linda voluntered last fall at the CBT-p training in Milton and hopes to facilitate groups to teach these techniques to others. “The most helpful thing I learned from the training was the concept of normalizing symptoms. Now when I’m with my son I have a better understanding of what he's is going through,” Linda says. “I have hope that my son can recover and have a good quality of life.”

CBT training teaches cutting edge, evidence-based support for both mental health practitioners and family caregivers.
