Bell Let’s Talk Day 2018 – Be Mindful of Your Mental Health

                             

 

This year on Bell Let's Talk Day, the campaign raised $6.2 million for mental health inatiatives. With over 138 million interactions, Bell donated 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of the Bell Facebook frame or Snapchat filter to mental health initiatives in Canada.
 
SSO spent the day focused on taking care of mental health. Whether you live with a mental illness or not, everyone needs to be mindful of their mental well-being, take time for themselves and recharge. Sophie Huang, SSO’s Early Intervention Family Worker, suggests a few ways to take care of mental health.
 
  1. Live a balanced life – Make sure you have a work/play balance in life so you don’t get burnt out.
  2. Set realistic personal goals – Do you want that new job? Learn a new skill? Be more social? Set realistic, personal goals that you can work toward.
  3. Share and celebrate happy and memorable moments with friends and family – Don’t be afraid to celebrate good things that occur in life.
  4. Learn how to cope with negative thoughts and emotions – Whether you need to talk to friends and family, write it down or speak to a therapist, learning healthy ways to cope with negative thoughts and emotions will be helpful.
  5. Share laughter – Laughter is a wonderful way to relieve stress.
  6. Slow down and try to do one thing at a time – Life often moves fast and it doesn’t take much to feel overwhelmed. When things start to feel like they’re getting out of control, slow down and focus on one task at a time.
  7. Reach out to others when life does not go well – It’s important to have a support system to turn to when life gets hard, find people to confide in and listen.
