Planning your gift today will provide families and those affected by schizophrenia with hope tomorrow. Your desire to contribute something meaningful and lasting to our society, to make it better, is powerful. In time, you may be able to give the gift of a lifetime - a legacy of hope for the future. It is easier than you think and there are many options available to you:
Gifts for the Present Outright Gift: Most outright gifts are made in cash, but anything of value may be given, including treasury bills, mortgages, GICs and mutual funds.
Appreciated Property: This is a very tax-effective way to give and support those affected by schizophrenia. The capital gains tax is reduced by 50%.
Gifts for the Future Charitable Bequest: An easy way to make a gift. Simply leave the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario in your will. Your gift can be a specific amount, percentage or residual of your estate.
Life Insurance: By designating the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario as the owner and beneficiary of a paid-up, current or new policy, you will be able to make a significant future gift without diminishing your estate. Tax benefits will depend on which option you choose.
Gifts That Give Something Back Charitable Gift Annuity: Provides both a gift to help people affected by schizophrenia and guaranteed, regular, equal payments of income for the rest of your life, that can be 100% tax free.
Charitable Remainder Trust: You irrevocably transfer ownership of a substantial asset to a trustee, but you retain the right to the income from the trust. In the end, the principal in the trust becomes your gift to make a difference in the lives of those affected by schizophrenia.
